ASK ME ANYTHING

Hi team! I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on all of the amazing clients, and really trying to extrapolate what makes certain clients more successful than others. Of course, as a marketing consultant, I am always trying to hyper focus on my part in a brands growth, but I started noticing some key trends among the clients that move forward, quickly. I wanted to put it all down in one place because I think we ALL have a lot to learn, myself included!

So, here we go – these are the 6 things successful small business owners have in common.

They’re not afraid to repeat themselves, often

They know consistency is the way, and that repetition breeds results. This manifests in so many ways, but most importantly, in the way we speak about our products. Absolutely nothing clears up your brand message than repeating it OFTEN and fitting into slightly different molds. On the contrary, they’re rarely EVER selling a product they don’t speak about often. You’ll never see one of my clients talk about a product for the first time on the day they’re selling it. Marketing runway is real and SO important. ** to view the messaging webinar inside The Friday Society Membership that will help a TON with this, click HERE!

They’re not afraid to sell and they know exactly what they’re selling

They aren’t afraid to sell because they believe whole heartedly in their product and know their value. They’re clear on their revenue streams. This means they’re easily able to communicate the things they cover, and who they’re for.

They support others

They believe in collaboration and supporting other small businesses. This is the must impactful, IMO. All of my most successful clients and Friday society members offer support to one another freely and without expectation, and it’s truly amazing to watch. Let’s take this thread that popped up recently — Member J is about to embark on a huge undertaking to expand her business, and popped in to the group to ask for some feedback/support. Some of the answers she got looked like this —

They invest early

A lawyer once told me – “pay me now or pay me later”, and nothing made me file my trademarks faster. I’ve seen clients come to me before they even signed a lease (and subsequently were profitable from month 1), and clients who came to me after 15 years of trying everything and were experiencing extreme fatigue. It is SO much harder to dig you out of a marketing grave than it is to get things set up right. Moral of the story – start with your marketing foundations as soon as you know you need some help. The best time to plant a tree was 100 years ago, the second best time is now.

They don’t let disappointments mean too much.

Yes, we all let the unsubscribes, client issues, and late night texts ruffle our feathers, but my most successful clients have such a strong distinction between business and self that they’re able to keep business just business. In the same way, they don’t let a super successful period mean too much, either. They celebrate, and keep the train moving.

They have solid boundaries and don’t apologize for them.

See point #2. When you know your worth, you’re not afraid to enforce your brand policies. We’re running businesses and policies exist to protect everyone involved. Use your discernment, here, of course. I love my clients and always do what I can given extenuating circumstances and would never advise being rude or difficult. But the client who cancels 5 minutes before your session each week… it might be time for a policy reminder.
