Today on The Friday Society Podcast sat down with the incredible Sara Habetz, founder of Hype Haus Fitness. Sara has built one of the most vibrant and community-driven boutique fitness studios I’ve seen. She’s an incredible inclusive leader with amazing energy that is simply infectious. We talked about everything from expanding a fitness studio into a new demographic to how to use automations in your business without losing the human touch.
Sara is also a longtime member of the Friday Society Membership, so it’s been amazing watching her evolve as a business owner over the years. Sara has managed to scale her studio to a location in New Orleans to a second in Baton Rouge and still keeps the culture and energy that made people fall in love with Hype Haus Fitness in the first place.
This episode is packed with insights for anyone running a boutique fitness studio, a service-based business, or honestly any brand that thrives on community.
The Story Behind Hype Haus Fitness & Sara Habetz
Sara’s journey into entrepreneurship is rooted in her passion for movement and community. Long before opening Hype Haus Fitness, she was deeply embedded in the fitness world and had spent years teaching classes and building relationships with clients. Over time, she realized she wanted to create something that truly reflected her vision of fitness. And honestly, it’s an amazing vision.
Instead of another typical gym environment, Sara wanted a space where people felt celebrated and energized when they walked through the door. That idea became Hype Haus Fitness which is a studio built around community, music, and positivity. Seriously, her music is so fun! The brand centers around welcoming everyone no matter where they are in their fitness journey, and creating an atmosphere where members genuinely feel supported. You guys know I talk about this all the time in the marketing membership!
What I love about Sara’s approach is that she didn’t just build a workout studio. She built a tight knit culture.
And when you build a culture first, everything else in your business starts to fall into place.
Expanding a Fitness Studio Into a New Demographic
One of the biggest things we talked about in this episode was expanding a fitness studio into a new demographic. her first studio which is in New Orleans, LA has a completely different market and demographic than her second in Baton Rouge. Expansion can be one of the most exciting, and also nerve-wracking, stages of growth for a business owner.
Sara has reached a point where Hype Haus Fitness is incredibly successful with its current audience, but she recognized an opportunity to reach an entirely new group of people.
Instead of assuming the same messaging and marketing would work, she approached the expansion strategically. She thought about the needs, motivations, and habits of this new demographic. What motivates them to work out? What kind of messaging resonates with them? Where do they spend their time online?
These are the questions that allowed her to shape marketing campaigns and programming that would actually speak to that audience.
I think this is something many business owners overlook. When we grow, we often assume the same marketing strategy will scale with us. But the reality is that different demographics respond to different messaging, branding, and offers.
The Role of Automations in Growing a Fitness Business
Another major topic we covered was how to use automations in your business without making your brand feel robotic. Keeping the personal touch is really important to me.
Automations and tech can be a game changer for entrepreneurs. It saves time, streamlines communication, and allows you to focus on higher-level strategy. But the challenge is that businesses built on community cannot lose their human connection. People will eventually see through this.
Sara has done an amazing job finding that balance.
Instead of using automations to replace relationships, she uses them to support them. Things like onboarding sequences, client communication, and follow-ups can all be automated so that nothing slips through the cracks.
For example, when someone signs up for a class or joins the studio, they can receive automated messages that guide them through the process, introduce them to the community, and make them feel welcomed immediately.
This kind of system ensures every new client has a great experience without requiring Sara or her team to manually send every message. It giver her time back to focus on other high level goals.
Automations aren’t about removing the human element. They’re about creating consistency so that every client feels supported. When you’re running a growing studio or business, that consistency is what keeps things from becoming overwhelming.
Trusting Your Team as Your Business Scales
One of the most powerful parts of our conversation was when Sara talked about trusting her team.
When entrepreneurs first start a business, they do everything themselves. Teaching classes, responding to emails, managing marketing, and handling operations. But at some point, if you want your business to grow, you have to shift out of that mindset and hire people to support you.
Sara has reached the stage where she’s learning to step back from certain day-to-day responsibilities and empower her team. That doesn’t mean she’s less involved in the business. It means she can focus on the bigger picture and longterm goals.
Instead of getting caught in the weeds, she can spend more time thinking about growth, expansion, brand partnerships, and the long-term vision for Hype Haus Fitness. This is what allowed her to focus on her second location expansion.
This shift is often one of the hardest for founders, but it’s essential for scaling a business. The businesses that grow the most are the ones where the owner evolves from operator to leader.
Why Community Is the Heart of Hype Haus Fitness
Something that really stood out to me in this conversation is how intentional Sara is about protecting the culture of Hype Haus Fitness. Even as the studio expands and evolves, the core mission remains the same which is creating an uplifting environment where people feel welcome and supported.
Fitness studios are unique businesses because they often become a “third place” for members. Not home, not work, but somewhere people go to connect with others and feel energized.
The workouts matter but the reason people stay loyal to Hype Haus is the feeling they get when they walk into the studio. That kind of community must be authentic. It comes from leadership, consistency, and genuine care for the people in your space.
What Business Owners Can Learn From Sara Habetz
There are so many takeaways from this conversation, but one thing really stood out to me which is, Sara approaches business with both strategy and heart. She understands the importance of marketing systems, automation, and scaling operations. But she also never forgets that at the core of Hype Haus are real people. That balance is what allows her business to grow while still feeling authentic.
For anyone thinking about expanding a fitness studio, building a membership-based business, or learning how to use automations effectively, Sara’s journey offers an incredible example.
Her story is proof that you can scale a business while still staying true to your values.
