“I am running this business and living this crazy entrepreneur life of working 100 hours a week so that I don’t have to work 40 hours a week”.
-Rachel Apfel Glass

Hey everyone!! Super excited to bring you this short but majorly packed episode with Rachel Apfel Glass, CEO and Founder of Glosslab! Glosslab is the mani +pedi revolution we have all been waiting for!

Rachel and I got to talk all about her story from beginning to present on pre-research, opening, and growing Glosslab to the 20+ and 20 coming) location nationwide nail care chain. She graciously shares her journey of revolutionizing the nail salon industry. From employing innovative data collection methods to creating a brand that prioritizes both customer experience and employee well-being. Rachel’s story is nothing short of inspiring!

Glosslab is the Mani +Pedi Revolution

The Birth of GlossLab: Innovation from the Ground Up

GlossLab didn’t start with the usual market research or industry data. Instead, Rachel Apfel Glass took an unconventional approach. She hired a Task Rabbit to observe customer patterns at nail salons. This was super intriguing to me because her method of research was client observation. Which reminds me of my time at lululemon and our observation methods.

This grassroots method provided invaluable insights that helped shape GlossLab’s unique business model, emphasizing signature branding and exceptional customer experience.

Elevating the Manicure Experience

One of the core philosophies of GlossLab is to transform manicures from mundane errands into delightful experiences, much like hair and makeup services. Rachel’s commitment to enhancing employee treatment, offering fair wages, and fostering equity within the company underscores her holistic approach to business.

These days employees are looking for an enjoyable place to work with benefits, culture, and freedom. Rachel Apfel Gloss is amazing at offering this environment to her employees nationwide!

Navigating a Fragmented Market

Rachel discussed the challenges of operating in a fragmented market. She’s heavily focusing on ethical working conditions and the importance of a comprehensive customer experience. This strategy has paid off, with GlossLab expanding to nearly 20 locations! Wow! The company’s growth strategy involves clustering locations and starting with pop-ups that often become permanent fixtures post-pandemic.

Again, reminding me so much of lululemon and this new age approach.

Looking Ahead: Vegan and Nontoxic Nail Products

Rachel also shared exciting future plans! This includes the launch of vegan and nontoxic nail products. This move aligns with GlossLab’s commitment to ethical practices and holistic well-being, further setting the brand apart in the industry.

Don’t forget to tag me @alexagrowmybusiness and Glosslab @glosslab for your next manicure!! Enjoy!
