Jess Sims Version of Self Care
Being a fitness instructor is a lot physically and mentally. Jess is super intentional about taking time for self care. Her definition of self care is choosing to do something just for yourself. Jess loves meditation, walking her dogs, or enjoying a great cup of coffee. During the podcast she describes one of her favorite quotes from a friend which is ‘drink as you pour.’
Self care is not only about the physical body but also the mind and soul. Jess explains the importance of taking care of your body because its the only one we have.
Being a Professional Athlete
There are many parts of the job when it come to being a professional fitness instructor. Not only are the Peloton instructors responsible for creating their own playlist, coming up with themes for their classes, social media, but they also need to give their physical body a rest. Which is hard when your job consists of moving your body.
Finding time to rest and relax is super important for longevity in the fitness industry. Navigating injury and listening to your body is important because eventually the injury will show up. Jess highlights the importance of not pushing your body too hard and understanding that moving your body is a marathon, not a sprint.
Community Support: The Backbone of Success
Navigating tough days and overcoming anxiety can be challenging, but Jess highlights the irreplaceable value of community support. Whether it’s learning from failure or embracing life’s nonlinear journey, having a supportive network can make all the difference.
Having support systems from family, friends, and chosen family are incredibly important for mental health. Jess is a big advocate of surrounding yourself with resources such as life coaches and therapists. Not only are they more objective but they are trained to deescalate situations and provide constructive insight during emotional moments.
