ASK ME ANYTHING

starting a membership and marketing

Hey Guys!

How are you liking the Ask Me Anything podcasts? I’m loving answering your questions and it would be great to know if these are resonating with you! The questions keep rolling in and – get better & better. Today, I discussed community questions such as starting a membership and how much time should be focused on marketing.

Starting a Successful Membership

The first question I discussed is around memberships. Sometimes we can feel awkward ‘selling’ our services. It may feel cringy or uncomfortable but let’s reframe this. First of all, clients are excited to be buying from you! What you are offering holds value for them so they are wanting to purchase your membership or services. Don’t undermine all of the great things you are doing!

The Friday Society Membership has been launched twice. Candidly, the first launch was premature but I was first starting and building out the framework of my business. I also wasn’t really marketing the membership and after little interest I decided to shut it down. But two years later, after really defining my offerings, pricing, and services, I relaunched my membership which has now become such a success! TFSM has over 130 monthly members and is growing every week!

Why is my membership so successful? It’s because it’s coming from a place of wanting to offer true value. Ask yourself;

  • Why are you wanting to start a membership?
  • Are your clients asking for this offering?
  • Have you mastered retention?

I go into why I’m asking you these questions in more depth on the podcast but by understanding the intention behind membership should be the first place you start.

How Much Time to Focus on Marketing as a Start-up

A question I often receive is about start-up’s, or small businesses, and how much time they should be focusing on marketing. I have so many thoughts on this but optimizing tools, software, pricing, retention methods, etc. will set your business up for success no matter how small your business is. Just because you have a small business, or haven’t opened your doors, the more you can get done beforehand is only going to set you up for success.

For example, I use Zapier a ton in my business. Once a client signs up for TFSM it creates a Zap to put them in a special list to send welcome swag, a FloDesk nurture sequence, and enrolls them into the membership. This saves me a ton of time on the backend and it’s invaluable.

Listen to the podcast to get all of my recommendations because I had a lot of great advice to get you excited!
