Improve Google Ranking

Hey guys!!

Learning how to show up on Google and improve your SEO is crucial for your business. Before we jump in though, I hope you are enjoying the transition into fall and shifting into the new energy of the season! I love summer and being outside, but something about being able to pull on a cozy sweater makes me so happy!

This past month in The Friday Society Membership we discussed SEO + Brand Discoverability. I am by no means a SEO master, but I have uncovered a lot of opportunities to boost my SEO through simple website and marketing techniques. I’m going to share 5 SEO principles so your content works for you in the most productive way possible!

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization, SEO, essentially means how easy we make it for people to find us. This can be through search engines such as Google or Yahoo or through Instagram and TikTok. There are ways to boost SEO through paid advertising, but personally, I focus on free organic marketing. The majority of my focus is on Instagram, or other social outlets, referrals from members, and people finding me by searching for a health & wellness marketing consultant.

The truth is, you can have the strongest brand in the world and spend thousands of dollars on marketing, but if you didn’t do the work for brand discoverability then no one can actually find you. If no one can find you then you wont have many clients, and unfortunately, all of your hard work is not going to pay off the way you intend. The goal is that you have an intentional strategy behind your marketing so you can have a strong brand presence.

Principle #1: Have a Blog

The first principle I’m going to share, which is also super easy, is to enhance your SEO by having a blog. There are so many ways to host a blog such as Squarespace, Showit, WordPress, and through most website builders. I personally use Showit and LOVE it! Try a month free with my code CTNKMM9V.

The reason we add a blog to our website is that the more content Google has to pull from, the better. If our content is living in newsletters or on IG stories then once that fresh content goes out into the world it quickly dies. If someone is not already in your ecosystem they will never come across this amazing content! I follow new people often and all of their stories that they have posted before I joined their community are gone! However, if we upload this content to a blog post then the content lives forever on search engines, and when someone searches for certain keywords within the blog, it will popup within the search. It can seem overwhelming to start a blog but I promise it is not a hard add-on to your business, and takes maybe 120 seconds!

A few best practices when it comes to a blog are to repurpose long Instagram captions, identify key phrases that you believe your ideal client is searching for, and word count matters (aim for 500-1500, if you can).

Principle #2: Leverage SEO Settings on Your Website

The second principle is to leverage the SEO settings on your website. Most website builders offer this feature so check your page settings or look for an article about how to set this up. Most websites allow you to control your SEO title, description, image alt-text, and keywords so this literally lets you add in the keywords that your ideal client is searching for. So for example, if you are a personal trainer you can enter keywords like nutrition, high protein meals, personal trainer for women, best trainer in Denver, etc. This allows you to literally have control over how to show up on Google. As a marketing consultant for health and wellness clients, I made sure these keywords are listed in my SEO settings.

Also, don’t forget to fix any broken links because people are more likely to quickly leave your website which affects your rankings in a Google search! More often than not I come across websites with broken links so keep an eye out for this.

Principle #3: Keywords and Phrases

Principle #3 is to have specific keywords and phrases that describe your business and offerings. I recommend having 4-6 key phrases that describe who you are, what you do, and why you are good at it. Take a minute and think about this question, what would you want me to search to find you? Now start to contemplate those key phrases. I dove into this during TFSM webinar on ‘Messaging Optimization’ so if you are a member refer back to this webinar or click here to learn more about the membership.

To piggyback off of this principle, Google search console is a tool that everyone has access to for free. This shows you what people are searching for. Check out this article about how to set it up and tips. I’m sure there are also other YouTube videos so if you come across any great ones please share with me in the comments below! Other tools such as SEM Rush and Yoast can also help you find the same information so I’d love to hear your feedback if you use these.

Principle #4: Verify Your Domain

Principle #4 is to verify your domain which proves that you own your domain which quickly improves your Google search results. You also want to do this with your email providers as well because this will help your emails not fall into a spam folder. This is simple, quick, and easy but drastically improves your SEO!

Principle #5: Move Everything To Be Internal

Lastly, move everything you can to be internal! For example, use your own website link in your social bio vs a LinkTree. With each click, this is driving people to your website which improves your SEO. On your website, you can create a links page which will link to all of your main offerings. Check out my example by clicking the link in my IG bio. Don’t let a third party retain all of your SEO!

Brand discoverability and SEO is everything! There is a lot of low hanging fruit we can take advantage of to improve our discoverability which leads to client acquisition.

I dive deep into each of these principles within the membership webinar so if you are interested in learning more then click here! I would love to have you join the most amazing community of incredible entreprenuers!
