How I built a 7-figure business with 5K followers, zero ad spend, and a whole lot of trial and error. Growing a business organically, for both myself and my clients, is my passion. Here’s a quick roadmap for you.

I just hit 5K followers. Six years into this business. Growing a business organically takes work, consistency, but it can also be so incredibly fun and fulfilling. Here’s my recap.

I’m not an influencer. I’m not trying to make content for everyone. What I share is what’s actually working — organic, community-based marketing, strategy, and the parts of my life and passions (hi, nutrition) that feel right to bring into this space.

And here’s the thing nobody tells you: you don’t need a big following to make a lot of money. That’s just not true. What you actually need is to be real, to have a proven result you’re known for, and to be clear about how people get there with you.

So in this episode, I’m walking through exactly what I would — and wouldn’t — do again if I wanted to hit another million. Because I do want that. And I want it faster this time.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

1. Pay attention to the REAL needle movers

Not everything that works growing your business organically is measurable right away. I talk through a conversation I had with the former CEO of Barry’s about their smoothie bar, and why the things your clients are quietly nudging you toward are often the things worth listening to — even when you can’t draw a straight line to revenue yet.

2. Hospitality beats ad spend, every time

If you have $1,000 to invest in your business right now, I will always tell you to put it into client gifts before you put it into ads. Handwritten cards. Mailed welcome gifts. The kind of thoughtful, personal touches that get shared on social and worn out in the world. A dollar spent on hospitality creates a ripple effect that a dollar spent on a cold audience never will.

3. Get honest about your business model

In the early days, I did a little bit of everything — website help, behind-the-scenes work, 1:1 sessions, membership content. I called it strategy. Really, it was spaghetti at the wall. It taught me a lot about what I liked and didn’t like, but it also had me running what felt like three separate businesses at once. Eventually I got clear: I love being IN sessions with people. That’s where I hear what’s really going on and where the strategy starts to click.

4. Protect your energy and your schedule

This is the tip I most want you to sit with. In the hustle phase — which matters, I’m not knocking it — I was taking sessions every single day. And the energetic weight of showing up for other people every day, with no space carved out for yourself, adds up fast. I talk through how I structure my week now: one day for admin and personal time, one day for meetings. And I share what a client told me recently about protecting her Thursdays completely — no meetings, just her business, Flodesk or Showit open, binaural beats on, and space to let things flow.

5. Don’t work with tech you hate

Full stop. Energetically or logistically, if the tool isn’t working for you, it’s not worth the friction.

Get Clear on What Matters to You

Toward the end, I get specific about how I think about visibility — preview content, push notifications, showing up daily in small, dialed-in ways that walk the talk. The goal isn’t to be everywhere. It’s to build a client journey so clear that someone can connect with you on social, opt into an email, build trust, join the membership, book a session, and become a real part of the community — in that order, on purpose.
