Today on the Friday Society Podcast, I hosted Alessia Scazzillo, the Founder of A Sculpt Body, on how to build partnerships and entrepreneurship. We also discussed our favorite mindset books and building online community. You may know her as Alessia Sculpt on Instagram. She has been featured in Business Insider, Style Canada, and View the Vibe.
From Finance to a Fitness Leader
Alessia was born, and currently based, in Toronto Canada. However, she has an adventurous spirit and residing in Miami Florida for the summer.
Alessia started working in finance at the age of 20 years old. After studying business at McGill University based in Montreal Canada, she got a job at PWC accounting. She followed the traditional path and got a job at large corporate Canadian bank.
After the passing of her mother from skin cancer she started to dabble into fitness. The local fitness studio hosted a workout class to raise money in her mothers honor for the hospital where her mother passed away. This is incredible by the way and such a wonderful way for a studio to support local community members!
She slowly started to gain more interest in working out by building her strength and confidence. Working out was her outlet from the stressful and life consuming, banking world.
After a toxic boss, long hours, and feeling the burden of golden handcuffs, Alessia considered her next move.
Turning a Hobby into a Side Hustle
Alessia was naturally drawn towards teaching and mentoring younger finance professionals. She figured her next move might as well include teaching which is something she is really talented at. Alessia came alive and started to teach at her local studio when she wasn’t grinding at her corporate job.
Alessia started her online fitness business before Covid hit so she wasn’t as impacted as brick and mortar studios. By leaning heavily into her fitness passion, she transitioned full time several years ago. She now focuses on her online platform and is passionate about low-impact workouts.
The Infamous Saturn Return
I’m curious, are you aware of your Saturn Return? This is a pivotal time of your life when you are 28 and there can be major life shifts! I had big life changes during my Saturn return and find this part of astrology fascinating.
At the beginning of her 28th year she re-evaluated her career and towards the end of the year she decided to leave her marriage. After parting ways with her husband she contemplate how she wanted to spend her time, and her life.
We also discussed human design and how this plays a part in our personalities. Just FYI – if you haven’t checked out the episode with Erin Claire Jones then do it! It’s so interesting. Find it here!
Mindset Book Recommendations
When it comes to morning routine and setting the tone of the day, scrolling Instagram isn’t going to help much. I’ve found that grounding practices such as reading a book or mediation help me have a much more productive day. I love learning about other peoples books and podcast recommendations so here are hers!
Alessia’s has 2 go-to books for mindset. Her first is Journey to The Heart by Melody Beattie which has daily mediations tied to each day of the year. Her second is Find Your Happy by Shannon Kaiser which are daily mantras for a positive mindset.
One of her favorite apps for morning mediations are from the Superhuman App. The app offers short or longer mediations which I have tried and love!
Some of her favorite spiritual podcasts are the Blonde Files, Almost 30, The Balanced Blonde, and Build with Rob. These podcasts focus mostly on mindset, manifestation, and aligning positive thoughts to the positive outcomes you set for your life.
Building Brand Partnerships
Alessia started her Instagram account because she knew potential students would be visiting her page when deciding to come to her class. This kicked off her ability to build profitable brand partnerships. I talk about this in TFSM about ensuring your social media is an accurate depiction of how you want potential clients to view you! Social media is now the first place most clients look at first.
She started building brand partnerships by organically sharing brands that she used in real time. This was an easy way to start showing up on that brand’s radar. By starting out only sharing brands that were a part of her daily life allowed sharing on social media to feel in flow and not forced.
Partnerships as a Profitable Revenue Stream
Alessia’s strategy when building brand partnerships is to double down. What she means is that when a brand shows commitment then she commits back. She will post and talk about the brand more often over social media in the hopes that it will turn into a long term revenue stream. I’ve seen many of my clients build profitable revenue streams from brand partnerships. Being a savvy business woman, Alessia understands the value that this can bring to her business.
She will even build brand partnerships beyond social media and weave them into events that she will host. Last year, she hosted 10 events and included a few brands in her marketing strategy. I love this idea!
Building brand partnerships that are really successful can take time. It’s also important to realize when a partnership is no longer aligned and when it’s time to end the partnership.
Being a Multi-Dimensional Entrepreneur
Alessia is an incredibly smart entrepreneur and loves to push herself outside of her comfort limits. She not only has her online workout community which she has focused a lot of her efforts into nurturing but also hosts events. These are seriously beautifully curated events that bring so much value to her community!
She has hosted over 20 events selling out to over 1,000 women! Her events have been in Toronto, Miami, and New York City.
Alessia’s in-person events bring together her community for a fun workout and mindfulness. Not to mention brunch, cocktails, and pop-up shopping experiences.
